Electric Taxiing by Safran

Safran and Airbus are teaming up to develop an electric taxiing system for the A320 family. Using electric motors in the wheels on the main landing gear, this system allows airplanes to back up and taxi independently, without having to use their jet engines. The result is operational savings, better on-time performance and environmental protection.
