Pulse line, rolling line, moving line… With these new assembly lines for the LEAP engine and the LEAP-1A nacelle, up and running in 2017, Safran is developing its industrial capabilities. The Group is also deploying state-of-the-art solutions to keep pace with the fast ramp-up in production of this latest-generation turbofan, produced and marketed by CFM International, the 50/50 joint venture between Safran Aircraft Engines and GE.

Factory of the future : virtual reality now!

The virtual reality center at the Safran plant in Gonfreville-l’Orcher, near Le Havre (France), will allow the Group to boost competitiveness and on-time delivery performance, while also improving working conditions for employees. This new initiative clearly shows the fast-growing use of digital technology at Safran.

Safran Innovation Awards 2017

The annual Safran Innovation Awards recognizes ideas with strong potential submitted by employees, as well as by partners and suppliers. The 2017 Grand Prize went to a team from Safran Nacelles for their project based on virtual reality. The Field Innovation Award was selected by Safran employees, and went to a joint team from Safran Aircraft Engines and Safran SA for a project involving single-crystal turbine blades fitted with a stay during casting.

Future mobility is one of the main objectives of Safran’s R&T policy. A joint PSA/Valeo/Safran laboratory in Saclay, near Paris, is dedicated to autonomous vehicles. In October 2017, it submitted initial results to the three group’s R&T departments. Safran’s eRider robotic land vehicle was on display.
